The moment that craving hit me, I started searching for curry spots in Kyoto and stumbled upon a new gem.
In spring 2024, Nasu Oyaji Hanare opened its doors in the Karasuma Oike area.
This shop is an offshoot of the legendary Shimokitazawa curry restaurant, bringing the iconic flavors of Tokyo to Kyoto.
Concept
If you've lived in the Kanto area, you've probably heard of "Shimokitazawa Curry."
I myself frequented the Shimokitazawa Curry Festival during my university days.
Nasu Oyaji is a famous and beloved curry shop in Shimokitazawa.
Driven by the desire to share their delectable curry with even more people, they decided to open a second location.
And they chose Kyoto—what a gift to Kansai residents!
Access
The restaurant is located on Muromachi Street, south of Sanjo Street, in Kyoto.
It’s about a five-minute walk from Karasuma Oike Station (Exit 5) on the Subway Karasuma and Tozai Lines.
(For a more scenic route, consider exiting at 4-1 or 4-2 to enjoy the atmosphere of Oike Street.)

Lunch Set
I’m a sucker for the word "exclusive," so I went with the Weekday Exclusive Mushroom Curry for ¥1,200.
The curry was beautifully presented on a flat plate with vegetable garnishes cut into flower shapes—adorable!
While Shimokitazawa curry often leans toward soup-style, this one was rich, creamy, and packed with nostalgic flavors. The combination of earthy mushrooms and aromatic spices was absolutely divine.
Enjoying this curry in the spacious, relaxed interior felt like the perfect way to fuel my afternoon productivity.
